Living Near Cell Phone Towers During Pregnancy Not Associated with Early-Childhood Cancer

  • Editor JMS

Abstract

Description: (The offspring of women who live near a cell phone tower during pregnancy do not face increased risk for early-childhood cancer, according to a case-control study in BMJ. Supported by a consortium of telecommunications vendors, U.K. researchers examined 1400 cases of childhood cancers of the central nervous system, leukemia, and non-Hodgkin lymphoma. Each case was matched with four controls for age and sex. Cases' mothers were no more likely than controls' to have spent their pregnancies living close to cell towers. In addition, the estimated radiofrequency exposure from the towers was the same in both groups. SOURCE: JOURNAL WATCH (http://www.jwatch.org/))  JMS 2011;14(1):34
